Today’s excursion: Rail Ale!

Yes, the Rail Ale Festival, at Barrow Hill Roundhouse. Caught the freebie bus from Chesvegas railway station, soon arrived at Barrow Hill to buy my ale voucher(s), then meandered around, sampling the ales, riding on the trains, even noshing through a HUGE Eccles cake! A great afternoon out….as the pics may show!
Met up and chatted with Mike from the railway workshop who was on crossing duties, and Kim, a fellow Mog owner (and brewer) who was stewarding. Oh, and the Deightons from Ches CAMRA. Oh, and Jez from Drone Valley Brewery. The latter two are not pictured below! Probably a good job we are supplied with half pint glasses, not pints!

Chesterfield Walking Festival (2)

Today’s walk was at the Washlands Nature Park, at Wingerworth, just south of Chesvegas. Highly informed by the leader who told us that this, the most polluted area in Western Europe had become this superb nature reserve… Learned lots, saw lots, and nice weather too!

Chesterfield Walking Festival

We went on today’s walk: starting at New Bolsover Model Village. Now I always thought a Model Village was one you walked around, just like Gulliver in Lilliput, but No: this one is different…. Looking at the houses undergoing massive renovation, the village will become a sought-after place to live. Included was an industrial heritage-type walk, with a supoerb guide, who told us about the houses, coal mines, railway lines, dragon flies, even a Jam factory!Finished the walk with a nice cuppa, a nice bun, and a quick visit to a newly-refurbished house, the new temnents due to move in within a week.

Dawn Chorus Walk

about a dozen of us in the group, consisting of walkers and ornithologists set off at 04.30 for a wander around woodland to the south of Sheffield to listen and spot birds: last year we saw a cuckoo…this year, we almost bumped into a group of 3 deer! Saw lots of birds too…

Glossop Car Show

Another great show, but a couple of showers of rain put the dampener on the day…lots there, but only two Mogs, the owner of the other, Glyn, is looking forward to getting involved with the MSCC and Tormog.

I had heard that a Landie with Pizza oven was going to be at Gawsworth Hall….and from placing my order, took only moments to make, and cooked in just 90 seconds. Superb!

red and shiny….again!

Just treated the Mog to another session with Polytrol, a magic colour restoring fluid, as the grp wings had faded again…
